A bumpy road
- Started out as Germanic tribes form the Nordic Bronze age to the Pre-Roman age.
- After going through shifting of territory for the next several hundred years, Germany reached its modern name and borders.
- After their defeat in World War 1, the Germans rose to power, led by Adolf Hitler, and reeked havoc in Europe one reason of the cause of Wold War II.
- The Holocaust began around the same time and lasted until 1945.
- Hitler's suicide in 1945 was a contributing factor to the end of the war.
- Germany split in 1949 into East and West Germany, which held different views and policies.
- In 1989, the Berlin Wall, which divided Germany fell.
- East and West Germany re-united in 1990.
- Since then, Germany has been a very successful country.
- Although there has not yet been a female federal president,in 2005, Angela Merkel was the first elected female chancellor.
